No story, just a series of beautiful images of Venice as it is rarely seen - from the air.
It’s only from above that you can truly see the massive threat posed to Venice by rising sea levels and more powerful tidal surges.
It is strange to look at these images and think that one day, it could all be gone, perhaps within a century, or less. Of course, entire cities have been wiped out before in the history of our civilisations, and if Venice goes too, it won’t be the last.
How weird it is to think that science will soon allow those who can afford it to live long enough to tell their great-great granchildren about a magical city that seemed to float on water, a city that science or the most brilliant engineers on the planet couldn’t save from the most destructive element on the planet.
Then again, our great-great grandchildren will be able to experience a hologram-memory of Venice that will probably feel more real, and last a lot longer, than any of our rushed tourist trips there today. In the holographic-memory tour of Venice, there would be few if any other tourists getting in the way, unless you choose that option in your package, and frankly, why would someone do that? Particularly if they can also choose to populate the holographic Venice they visit with famous figures from history, or cinema, or creatures and beings of pure fantasy instead.
Yeah, and anyway…
